Welcome to the Grizzly Sanctuary
Here You Will Find The Highest Concentration Of
Brown Bears In The World!

Welcome to The Grizzly Sanctuary. We specialize in small group photo safaris for viewing the large coastal brown bears along the coastline of Alaska's Katmai National Park and Preserve. The Katmai National Park has the highest concentration of brown bears in the world. Hunting is prohibited in the park and the natural balance of nature still remains evident here. Grizzly bears are numerous and wildlife is prolific. There are many large grizzly bears here and it is not uncommon to see 30-40 bears per day. The magic and mystery of this land remains unspoiled as it has for thousands of years.

Explore Alaska's Hidden Bays
Upon our boat we travel into the remote secluded bays searching for new and prestigious opportunities to photograph these magnificent brown bears. We have been traveling and exploring the Alaska Peninsula for over 13 seasons. Our captain was one of the first brown bear tour operators on the peninsula. He has been traveling these waters by boat for over a decade and remains one of the most knowledgeable and respected bear guides in all of Alaska.

Walk To The Bears
We limit our bear viewing groups to only 6-8 guests. Each day you will be guided by a professional bear guide. From our comfortable vessel we take you to shore by skiff. Upon arrival at shore you will make a short hike to the meadows or along rivers and streams where you will view the many brown bears grazing on sedge grass or feeding on salmon.

Advantages Of Boat Exploration
Traveling and staying on our vessel has many advantages including safety and the ability to traverse various bays providing new locations, scenery and backdrops for the avid photographer and naturalists. This is a major advantage over a stationary land based camp where you may be limited to the close proximity of your tent camp and forced to view the same bears and scenery each day due to logistics and travel time. Land based camps have a tendency to leave " footprints " where they have been.

A Photographers Delight
Photographers wanting different scenery and different brown bears welcome this opportunity to travel upon our boat into bays with little or no traffic from other tour operators. Photographers and naturalists also welcome the idea of viewing and photographing bears that quite possibly have never seen a human before. This may be important to the photographer wanting images of bears that not everyone has and making his images unique.

Comfort and Safety On The Boat
You will sleep in comfort and safety upon our coast guard approved vessel. Our boat is equipped with all the conveniences of home including showers, meals and protection from rain and inclement weather. Our boat is equipped also with a generator that provides electricity for laptops and digital downloads. Although there is no call for concern with land based camps who practice good bear etiquette we feel traversing and exploring the coastal waters of the Grizzly Sanctuary upon our boat gives our client more opportunity for his stay in Alaska.
