Sleepy Time...
The Grizzly Bears of the Sanctuary Peacefully Resting

A large male brown bear uses a log for a pillow in the sanctuary.

The coastal brown bear is curious, intelligent and if you get to close can be extremely dangerous. Respecting the bear and his territory or " space " is vital in not provoking a attack. This is very important when you see these grizzlies resting. Even though they look asleep they are very keen on your presence. Their senses are still very much active and constantly feeding their brain with information. The Grizzly Sanctuary is the best place in the world where you can still see these great bears engaging in their natural behavior as they have for thousands of years.

It is here in the Grizzly Sanctuary that we only take small groups of 6-8 clients led by a professional guide. Here you will be able to carefully walk amongst the coastal brown bears. Nature photographers as well as the individuals that love and respect wildlife will be able to acquire spectacular images of wild grizzlies like no other place on earth. Imagine huge coastal brown bears resting in massive green meadows for as far as you can see. The great bears gorged full of salmon resting on gravel bars. This place is special and extremely wild. There is no fences, roads or any reminder of civilization you just left. This wild sanctuary still belongs to the bears and is for a select few that truly appreciate the wild grizzlies.

Most people who see a single bear on vacation consider it the highlight of their trip but imagine seeing as many as 30-40 wild coastal brown bears in one day closer than most people will ever see a bear in their lifetime.

days of June.

On our small group low impact photographic tours into the Sanctuary we virtually walk within a safe distance anywhere the bears are. This is a rare opportunity to look at and study the life and times of wild Alaskan grizzly bears. The area that we conduct our private small group tours ( Katmai National Park ) is part of the largest protected coastal brown bear area in the world.

Bear viewing is a education and eye opening experience. Bear viewing is good for the soul and truly opens the mind for loving your fellow creatures here on this planet we both share. Wild grizzlies can be dangerous if provoked but in most all cases these bears just want to peacefully co-exist. Bear viewing has a calming effect and leaves most of our clients with a greater understanding and deeper appreciation of not just bears but rather all of God's creations.

The Grizzly Sanctuary is a conservation minded organization that promotes bear viewing of grizzly bears ( brown bears ) along the coast of Alaska's Katmai National Park. Bear watching is conducted in close proximity to the coastal brown bears by taking a skiff to shore from the anchored bear boat. Families, nature photographers and environmentalists are welcomed to view the numerous brown bears. Fly in for a remote coastal bear tour of the many magnificent grizzly bears from Kodiak Island.  The Grizzly Sanctuary travels the beautiful and rugged shores along the Katmai wilderness coast searching for unique photography of these unforgettable brown bears
