Huge Boars of the Grizzly Sanctuary

The 1000 pound plus giants!
No matter if your a amateur or serious photographer this is the best location to find real big bears and lots of them. During the months of May and June the big bruin's come out of the hills and brush and make it known that they are looking for mates. June is prime breeding season for the Alaskan brown bear of the Alaskan peninsula. It is a common sight to see 1000 pound plus bears walking slowly but deliberately seeking sows in the pastures of the Sanctuary.

This great bear was estimated in excess of 1200 pounds

A monarch weighing close to 1500 pounds

A sleeping giant 10 feet and over 1000 pounds

Huge brown bears in the Grizzly Sanctuary fear nothing! With their great size they have all the confidence in the world and little really disturbs them. With a height average of 8-10 feet and weight ranging from 800-1500 pounds you can see why all fellow creatures move out of their way. A large specimen can approach 5 feet at the shoulders and have paws the size of a large baseball glove with 5-6 inch claws protruding.

"His great speed was a blur and with jaws snapping"

This big boy was a walking tank

Big brown bears have heavy fury coats and range in color from blonde, brown or dark brown almost black looking. The mature big bears have a more pronounced large hump over their shoulders which is heavy muscle that gives strength to the fore limbs for digging, moving rocks or fighting. The heavy paws and claws are mostly used for digging and unlike the claws of other large predatory animals such as lions and tigers, the brown bear claws are not retractable.

This male was in srong pursuit of a sow in breeding season.

Ever aware, The 1200 pound plus bear kept close eye on me and the camera.

In spite of the huge grizzly bear's size he is still incredibly fast. Some big browns have big clocked at speeds in excess of 35 miles per hour! What is also remarkable is the great bears legendary stamina as well. Grizzlies are capable of running at full speed for miles at a time without stopping! For photographers and nature enthusiasts interested in getting big grizzly bear portraits in their natural environment then this is the place to achieve that photographic dream. You will not be disappointed or see only one bear but rather you will see many big bears in a variety of situations. The Grizzly Sanctuary is the last great place for wild bears. With our world constantly changing I cannot stress enough for the interested individual wanting to see one of nature's grandest spectacles is to come see these big bears in what is still wild.
