Fishing Along With The Bears!
Here is a once in a lifetime opportunity to fish the same waters that the giant coastal brown bears of Katmai fish. Yes...it is true. It is like getting a Free fishing trip to go along with the bear viewing. Our waters are rich with Salmon, Halibut and Crab and you may wish to take advantage of this rare combination.
Fish Aboard our Comfortable Vessel While Viewing the Grizzlies!
The immense bounty of Alaska's salmon and halibut fishing becomes very evident on board our large, stable and comfortable vessel when you have the option to fish the rich waters of the Katmai coast while taking a break or in between the bear viewing. One of our bear viewing guests just landed a 186 pound Halibut , after a 45 minute tug of war , while fishing off the back deck and right before he went on a photo excursion to shore! Now that's Alaska fising!
A Rare Opportunity
A great opportunity for the true outdoors men! View brown bears and then spend a day or a afternoon fishing these productive waters. It is possible to view the bears in the morning and spend the rest of the day fishing for halibut or salmon or a nice break in the bear viewing especially on foul weather days. This is sometimes a request especially for the guests planning a ten day or longer stay here at The Grizzly Sanctuary.
Fishing and Bear Viewing
Although our speciality and priority is viewing the coastal brown bears we on occasion offer halibut and salmon fishing while anchored in the evening. This is only a option made available to clients wanting to fish. It is not a scheduled itinerary.  Some of our guests may choose to stay on board and test their skills fishing instead of bear viewing. For some clients due to age, weather or physical restrictions or simply having done enough bear viewing for the week this becomes a nice change of pace to add to their Alaska experience and for some clients they may wish to experience as much Alaska as they can experience in their stay with us. We leave the option up to out clients. We have the necessary rods, reels and equipment for those wishing to fish. If you plan to fish we do require that you have a current fishing license purchased prior to getting on board our anchored boat. Licenses can be purchased in many locations in Kodiak or Anchorage before your arrival.
